Update: Washington Police arrest fugitive sex offender


    On Aug. 31, 2010, the Washington Police Department discovered that Steven Almond, a sex offender, was no longer living at his registered address in Washington. The case was transferred to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office for further investigation. The Sheriff's Office began an investigation and conducted multiple interviews. As a result of the investigation, Investigator Rob Voliva applied for and obtained a warrant charging Steven Jay Almond, age 30, formerly of the Zion Shelter in Washington, with one count of Failure to Register Address Change as a Sex Offender.

    On Jan. 14., Steven Jay Almond was arrested by the Washington Police Department. Almond was brought before Magistrate Sadler and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $1,200 secured bond.
