Traffic stop brings in cocaine arrest |

On Feb. 4, at approximately 11 p.m., Sgt. Jeremy Landeck with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division and Reserve Deputy Elvira Davis were patrolling the Edward area of Beaufort County. Sgt. Landeck observed a stationary vehicle in the roadway on Main Street in Edward. Sgt. Landeck initiated a traffic stop with the vehicle and made contact with the driver.Sgt. Landeck detected an odor of alcohol from the vehicle's interior and ran the driver's name through DMV files to determine if the driver had a valid driver's license. After learning that the driver had a revoked license and an outstanding Order for Arrest for Failure to Appear in Pamlico County, Sgt. Landeck arrested Marcy Lynn Hawkins, age 29, of Highway 55 in Bayboro. Sgt. Landeck conducted a search of the truck Hawkins was operating and located a plastic bag under the driver's seat that contained approximately 23 grams of a white powder- substance believed to be cocaine.
Hawkins was transported to the Magistrate's Office and charged with Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Driving While License Revoked. She was also served with the OFA from Pamlico County. Hawkins was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $5,500 secured bond.
